AHMEDABAD: In what can be called an extreme side-effect of social media, a 29-year-old woman was attacked by her ex-husband and his new wife because she kept an image of Lord Ganesha which was painted during her former marriage as her WhattsApp display picture (DP).
Police have registered a case of assault against her ex-husband and his current wife and begun an investigation.

The woman – Aditi Madhu (29), a resident of Astodia, stated in her complaint with Astodia police that her ex-husband Kalpen Krushnakant Velera and his wife Dhara Velera rushed to her house and started heated arguments with her.

“They abusively inquired why I had put the Lord Ganesha’s image on my WhattsApp DP (display picture) which was painted during our marriage. They started abusing and thrashing me. When my brother tried to intervene Kalpen slapped him as well. Then, both of them started beating him for no reason,” said the complainant.

Madhu had married Kalpen Velera three years ago, but later divorced him around eight months back. After the divorce, Kalpen had married Dhara, stated the FIR.

Kalpen even threatened that if she ever keeps any picture clicked during their marriage, she would face dire consequences. “He threatened he will kill me if I ever kept any such picture as my WhatsApp DP,” said Madhu.

Madhu had then called up police control room and the cops registered her complaint.
