LOS ANGELES, Dec. 17, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- WURRLYedu and the Boys & Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley recently partnered to implement WURRLYedu's program of social and emotional learning through music in their four local clubs. As part of the music education program, on Saturday, December 15th, they collaborated on an inspiring project to enhance their newest club - the Boys & Girls Club of William Mead at the William Mead public housing site in Los Angeles.

Former Dodger pitcher Dennis Powell joined members of the Boys & Girls Club of William Mead to paint a music themed mural as part of the Club's music education program with WURRLYedu

The Club Members at William Mead worked with artist Ben Morales to create a mural representing their Club theme song. They selected Christina Perri's 'A Thousand Years' as the theme song collectively based on their loss of someone special in their lives, whether it was a sibling, grandmother or friend. It was a song that really brought all the kids together.

Former Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Dennis Powell spoke about the importance of community and teamwork at the event and joined Club Members to paint the mural at the Club.

"We consistently hear from both counselors and Club Members that WURRLYedu makes music education fun, collaborative, and increases their confidence and communication skills, while also building community, which makes WURRLYedu a great fit with the mission and values of the Boys & Girls Club," said JR Dzubak, Chief Executive Officer of the Boys & Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley. "Their program not only inspires music education but also inspired our Members to take more ownership over the Club since they played a big part in making it more beautiful with this new mural."

"We believe every child should have access to a high quality music education. Our approach increases student engagement while also improving the development of both musical, social and emotional skills," said Nadine Levitt, CEO and founder of WURRLYedu. "We're excited to partner with the Boys & Girls Club of West San Gabriel Valley and bring our program to more Boys & Girls Clubs soon. The William Mead Club Members have brought their music program to life with the beautiful theme song mural which will live on as an inspiring message to others."
