Day temperature plummeted by seven degrees Celsius from the normal to 20.8 degrees Celsius in the city due to Cyclone Phethai which has hit Andhra Pradesh coast, according to the India Met Department.

Heavy cloud cover and cold winds sweeping across throughout the day and into the night forced most citizens to dust their woollens out of the closet. Met department officials have forecast that the cyclone, which is turning into a depression, will cause the temperatures to remain low for at least two more daysalthough there could be a marginal rise in day temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However, there is likely to be a dip in the night temperature from 18 degrees Celsius to 15 degrees Celsius on Monday night with light rain forecast for Tuesday. There was heavy rain ( 7-9 cm) in parts of Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Khammam districts on Monday. Rain also occurred in Mahabubabad, Warangal, Nalgonda and Bhupalapally districts. Medak recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 13 degrees Celsius followed by Adilabad at 14 degrees Celsius and Hanamkonda at 15 degrees Celsius.
