A man has fallen to his death from an open fifth-floor window in a high-rise building.

Emergency services were called to Franklin Street in Adelaide's business district around 9am on Tuesday morning.

A spokeswoman from South Australia police confirmed paramedics worked on the man at the scene but were unable to revive him.

The man's family have been informed.

Westbound traffic in the CBD has been blocked from Pitt Street to Franklin Street and police are asking people to avoid the area.
