Ambala: Family of murdered man gets Rs 2 lakh compensation from DLSA

AMBALA: The family of a man killed in an assault in June 2016 has been given a compensation of Rs 2 lakh by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
In June 2016, Rohit, a resident of Mullana was attacked by three persons and had died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
An FIR was registered on June 28, 2016 in connection with the case on the complaint of one Vikas, resident of village Sardehri against three accused identified as Ranjit, Ramji Lal, and Neeraj, all residents village Sardehri under section 148, 149, 302, 323, 324, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The accused were found guilty of the offences by the court of sessions judge Vikram Agarwal on November 27, 2018.
The case was forwarded to the DLSA for exploring the possibility of awarding compensation to the victim's family under the Haryana Victim Compensation Scheme (HVCS), 2013.
Ranjit was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 25,000 under section 304 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) Part I of the IPC and in case he fails to submit fine, additional rigorous imprisonment of 2 years will be imposed. The other two accused have already undergone the custody under section 323, 324, and 506 of IPC.
On December 3, 2018, the family members of the deceased had moved an application for the compensation under section 357-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to DLSA.
Danish Gupta, the chief judicial magistrate-cum-secretary of DLSA informed, “The crime was reported to the police within the period of 48 hours from the occurrence of the crime on June 26, 2016. The family income of the survivors from all sources comes out to be Rs 50,000 per annum not exceeding the limit of Rs 4,50,000 per annum. Therefore, on December 17, 2018, after finding the case fit for the compensation under the HVCS, 2013, the family member of the deceased has been awarded Rs 2 lakh as compensation for rehabilitation and also they have received Rs 1 lakh from the government.”
