KOLKATA: Cops probing the death of New Town lawyer Rajat De told a Barasat court on Sunday that the victim’s wife, Anindita Paul De, killed Rajat herself after days of research on the internet Anindita, who had been in police custody for six days, was produced in court on Sunday as her lawyer pleaded for bail. However, the state counsel said that cops had just completed a reconstruction of the sequence of events and demanded her judicial custody. The magistrate then sent her to 12 days’ judicial custody till December 28.

“The accused has committed a cool-headed murder. She had done days of research on the internet and had deleted the search history and tried to pass on the murder as a suicide. Also, days before the murder, she had shared a news article over Facebook that was about a woman killing her boyfriend, cooking his meat and feeding it to others. It suggests the kind of mentality the woman was in,” said the state counsel. The state counsel added that the couple would often fight over the issue of divorce.

Anindita’s lawyer, however, said that all these claims were baseless and the cops do not have any evidence to prove their allegations.
