60 couples tie the knot at mass marriage

HISAR: Haryana finance minister Captain Abhimanyu organinsed a mass marriage ceremony at his native village, Khanda Kheri, in which 60 couples tied the knot on Monday.
Delhi-based welfare society Param Mitra Manav Nirwan Sansthan (PMMNS) organised the event. Chief minister Manohar Lal also reached the function to congratulate the newlyweds. Another 91 marriages will be held on Tuesday.
Earlier, Abhimanyu had announced that the amount received as compensation from the state government for the arson and damage caused to ‘Sindhu Bhavan’ in Rohtak in February 2016 would be spent on mass marriage functions.
The CM wished the newlyweds a “happy future”. The CM announced a grant of Rs 1 crore from his voluntary fund for institutional work in Khanda Khedi.
Women and child empowerment minister Kavita Jain and social justice minister Krishan Kumar Bedi also attended the event and announced a grant of Rs 21 lakh. The CM also distributed Rs 1.01-lakh cheques as financial assistance to each newlywed couple. The couples pledged to not support the female foeticide, and instead back cleanliness and social service.
The CM also inaugurated an ITI building, built in Bhaklana village for Rs 8.8 crore. Another ITI building, built in Rakhi Shahpur village for Rs 9.8 crore, and a new block of ITI at Majra Pyau, which cost Rs 4.5 crore were also unveiled. The CM also laid the foundation stone of Murrah Research and Skills Development Center in Khanda Khedi, which will be built for Rs 34 crore. An ITI will be constructed on eight acres in Sisai Bolan village for Rs 8.31 crore.
