Congress protest over inflated electricity bills in Mumbai turns ugly MUMBAI: Protesting against inflated power bills, Congress workers on Saturday allegedly damaged property of Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd office at Bhayander. Consumers have been complaining about inflated bills since the company took over power distribution from Reliance Energy in August.

On Saturday, Congress workers raised slogans against inflated bills and protesters damaged office property. The protest was led by former Congress MLC Muzaffar Hussain.

Spokesperson of Adani Electricity said, "We met the delegation from the political party and explained the tariff determination process. However, there were unwarranted disruptions perpetrated by the protesters..."

The company said that RInfra filed a tariff petition with MERC last December. MERC held a hearing on August 2 and reserved the order. Adani took over RInfra's Mumbai power business on August 28 and MERC issued a tariff revision order on September 12. "The tariff rise has no link with Adani taking over. It is only a coincidence that the timing of tariff revision," the spokesperson said.
