Crowd is 19,757 today

Steve Smith at the crease

Well... not in this game. At the SCG for Sutherland. His lads are chasing 123 for victory in the Sydney grade T20 final against Sydney University and are 1-29 after three overs.

Meanwhile, Australia 3-116, lead of 159.

Aussies remain patient

Vihari clearly bowling outside off stump as much as possible to Khawaja. Wants him to cut. Nearly bowled Khawaja but then he gets a couple of runs with a delicate late cut.

Slow period for the Australians but most importantly, they have limited further damage and put themselves into a match-winning position. Bookies have Australia at $1.33 to win the Test, compared to India at $4.10. The draw is paying $17 and fair enough too given there are still two days left in the fixture.

Australia 3-113 (Khawaja 32, Head 17), lead by 156 runs.

Couple of interesting stats below...

Vihari into attack

The off-spinner is coming around the wicket. Pant very vocal behind the stumps (shock). Maiden to begin with, very tidy. Very quick over too. Australia 3-110 (Khawaja 30, Head 16), lead by 153 runs.

Warne says it's time to punt Handscomb

Handscomb has scores of 34, 14, 5 and 13 this series.

Lead almost 150

Head slashes at a wide ball but it sails over slip's head for four. The 24-year-old is into double figures and remaining busy at the crease. Yadav then nearly bowls Khawaja with a ripsnorter of a ball that swings back in. How did that miss!? Australia 3-105 (Khawaja 25, Head 16), lead by 148.

Saker wants big lead

Australian bowling coach David Saker, speaking on Channel 7: "I think we can defend 200 but obviously we would like to get above 250, towards 300. It's looking tough out there, they're bowling well."

100 up for Australia

Australia pass 100 in the 30th over of the innings, pushing their lead up to 143. Khawaja (25) and Head (11) hanging in there.

The tweet below gives you a decent idea of what batsmen have had to go through today.

Will Handscomb be there in Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test?

Head starts in positive fashion

Head needs to knuckle down. If he can get to stumps that will be a big effort for the young man. Khawaja has been watchful, patient. He's letting India's quicks bowl to him. Australia 3-91 (Khawaja 23, Head 4), lead by 134 runs.

Anything over 250 runs in the fourth innings is going to be a tricky task, particularly given this pitch is breaking up and how potent Lyon has been of late.
