KOLKATA: Rumours marred the B.Ed Part I first semester examination for two year B.Ed degree, going on at 136 centres under The West Bengal University Of Teachers Training, Education Planning and Administration on Saturday. Around 11am a complaint was received by vice chancellor Soma Bandopadhyay about a question paper being circulated on social media and networking sites even before the exam was scheduled to start from 12 noon.
“On examining the pictures we found the question paper to be fake. It is an attempt to mislead the people examinees intentionally. Even the invigilators got confused “ said Bandopadhyay. She added, “we have lodged a complaint with Ballygunge police station immediately.”
Sources said that primary inquiry from the university revealed that the fake picture of the question paper on whatsapp and other social networking sites may have been sent from Murshidabad.
Both semester one and semester three examination has started under the two year B.Ed course from December 11. On Saturday around 39000 examinees appeared in the first semester examination. The university has 428 affiliated colleges. Among the 136 exam entries at which Saturday’s paper was being held many are private colleges.
The VC pointed out that it is an attempt to tarnish the image of the university. “We have completely overhauled our question paper distribution system. The question papers now arrive by post to the police station from where the college principal along with an observer collects them around 90 minutes before the exam.
The sealed question paper packets are then opened at the college just before the beginning of the examination. No employee from the exam controller’s section is involved in the exam distribution process anymore like earlier. The step has been taken to ensure transparency,” Bandopadhyay said.
The VC has also informed education Minister Partha Chatterjee about the matter.
