MUMBAI: A Santacruz resident has been arrested for sexually abusing a 17-year-old college girl inside a building in Andheri (W). The accused, Ditesh Nandu, who runs a metal sheet business in Goregaon, took the girl to the terrace on the pretext of making her portfolio for a soft drink advertisement campaign. The arrest was made by the Oshiwara police on Saturday.
Nandu (52) was tracked a week after he committed the offence when the police tracked him with the help of his mobile network. The police also retrieved CCTV camera footage of the locality in which he can be seen walking towards the building with the girl on December 11 around 3.30pm.
The incident took place when the teenager was walking back home from a bank. "We are collecting information about Nandu. He has said this was his first offence. He claims he got attracted towards the girl and planned to lure her with a job offer," said an officer.
After the man molested her, the girl rushed back home and approached the police along with her brothers. In her complaint, the teen has said: "My elder brother had asked me to go to the bank and deposit money. I went to the bank around 3pm and when I was returning, a nattily dressed man approached me and said he was looking for candidates to work for an ad campaign. He said he needed my profile. But as I was not carrying my profile, he said he could create one immediately at his office which was nearby."
Believing him, the girl went along with him to the fifth floor, where he said his office was. "But on reaching the fifth floor, Nandu claimed his office was closed and asked her to stand by the wall. When he tried to undress her on the pretext of measuring her, she screamed and ran away," said a police officer.
Nandu has been sent to police custody till December 20.
