Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday urged Bangladesh to work in close coordination with India to strengthen both the nations.
Deb was speaking here after laying wreath in memory of war martyrs on the occasion of 'Vijay Diwas', celebrated every year on this day to mark India's decisive win over Pakistan in 1971, and the birth of Bangladesh.
He said Tripura shares a long history of friendship with Bangladesh, and the state played a crucial role in the 1971 war.
"People of Tripura whole heartedly supported the war... India is the closest neighbour of Bangladesh... I hope this historic relation would strengthen both the countries in future," Deb said.
Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Tripura Kiriti Chakma said his office here observed 'Vijay Divas' with a seminar on the liberation of Bangladesh, hoisting the Bangladesh national flag and offering floral tributes to 'Bangabandhu' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
