2 more men arrested for cheating 40 people of Rs 20lakh
Dec 17, 2018, 00:27 ISTCoimbatore: After arresting five people in the last two days for cheating several people of Rs 20lakh by promising them apartments in the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board unit at Vellalore, the city crime branch on Sunday arrested two more people.
They were identified as M Kunjumon of Postal Colony at Perur Chettipalayam and T Shaji of Perur Chettipalayam. Shaji is a former member of the Friends of Police, sources said. The duo was remanded in judicial custody. Police are on the lookout for Thirumalai and have formed a special team to nab him.
V Shanmugam, a fisherman from Kottaimedu in the city, had lodged a complaint against two couples, who approached him in 2014, offering apartments. They said they have connections with politicians and bureaucrats and can get him apartments in the Vellalore unit. Believing their words, Shanmugam had given them Rs 73,000. More than 40 people had given the couple as much as Rs 20lakh, police sources said.
Police on Saturday had arrested Gayathri, wife of Kunjumon, M Jayakumar and his wife J Suguna of Housing Unit on Vincent Road in the city and booked them under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code. TNN
