The Ambattur Estate police on Saturday arrested M. Arivazhagan, a native of Mathur in Krishnagiri district, for allegedly raping several women when he went on a burglary spree in the western parts of the city.
He was arrested last year when he was operating in the southern suburbs. After he came out on bail he resumed his criminal activities, said the police.
25 burglaries
“He has committed at least 25 burglaries since March. When we were trying to nab him near a bridge, he ran, fell down and broke his hand,” a senior police official told The Hindu. Last year, he was nabbed by the Velachery police for stealing a mobile phone from a software engineer. To the shock of his investigators, the 29-year-old man, an engineering graduate, told them that he had also raped several women at knife-point.
The police said he moved to Thirumullaivoyal.
“He revealed that at night, he randomly broke into houses in Ambattur, Ambattur Estate, Korattur and Mogappair and raped women before burgling the place,” a senior police officer said.
