Most patients have to be referred to private hospitals
Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, Thousands of employees and retired employees of BHEL are not getting proper treatment at Kasturba Hospital. There is no specialist doctor in the hospital. Due to which hospital management is referring patients to the private hospitals after giving primary treatment to the patient.
In Kasturba Hospital, 500 to 600 patients come to get treatment every day. Retired employees, including 40 thousand existing employees and their families, get treatment in Kasturba Hospital.
Last Friday, there was an accident in the transformer block of BHEL factory. With the blast, contract workers, Dharmaveer and Varun Kohli sustained burn injuries on face and chest. After the accident both contract workers were taken to Kasturba for treatment. After the primary treatment, both the injured were admitted in a private hospital. In the hospital, the contract workers had to be admitted to a private hospital without having a burn unit.
Earlier, in the past four years, there were five to six accidents in the BHEL factory. During this, the injured had to be referred to the private hospital instead of Kasturba Hospital.
The same BHEL management says that it is not that there is no treatment in Kasturba Hospital. They are given treatment on time. After the accident, the injured are admitted to Kasturba Hospital only. Only when needed are they taken to a private hospital.
No specialist doctors
For three years in the Kasturba Hospital, there are no specialists of heart, liver, and other major diseases. Recruitment of doctors was also undertaken. But, doctors did not come due to the strict conditions of BHEL management. Thus the treatment of the major diseases is not available in the hospital. Most patients have to be treated in a private hospital only.
This month, BHEL CMD Atul Sobti can come to Bhumi Poojan of a separate block to prepare the coach of the metro train. During this, leaders of trade unions demanded better treatment facilities to BHEL employees in the hospital. INTUC has also asked for the hospital to be handed over to private players.
