Mackenzie Carreiro scored 19 points, Atiya Rivera had 13 and Catherine Callahan 10 as a well-balanced Durfee team notched its first girls' basketball victory of the season, defeating Somerset Berkley 66-49 Friday night.

For Somerset Berkley, Karoline Gajewski led the way with 14 points.

Bishop Connolly 37, Southeastern 31: Katrina Rapoza scored 10 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and added four blocks as Bishop Connolly defeated Southeastern  in girls' basketball action Friday night.

Hannah Anselmo added nine points, while Abby Sousa finished with seven.

Bishop Connolly improved to 2-1 and will host Fairhaven on Monday.

Plymouth North 66, Bishop Stang 40: Cat Yeargin led Bishop Stang with 22 points, including three 3-pointers.

Rylie Carreau finished with 10 points for the Spartans, who fell to 3-1.

 

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Bishop Connolly 59, Dartmouth 43: Cooper Creek scored 20 points and added 15 rebounds as the Cougars improved to 2-0.

Matt Myron scored 13 points, while John Rego added 11 for the Cougars.

Atlantis Charter 71, Norfolk Agricultural 21 (Thursday): Sophomore Jamani Alves scored 18 points as the Tritons posted their first win of the season.

AC's defense was dominant. Rayzel deJesus made five steals and added eight points. 

Alves, Greg Cohill and Ronaldo Ribiero rebounded strongly. The Tritons made a season-high 31 field goals.

 

GIRLS' SWIMMING AND DIVING

Durfee 119, Coyle and Cassidy 48: At the Karen Jarabek Pool in Fall River, the Hilltoppers received notably strong performances from the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team of Jaelin Jang, Abby Long, Mackenzie Reed and Melia Bouramia (1:55.26) and the 400 free relay team of Sarah Carreiro, Hayden Levesque, Gillian Costa and Kaylin Sardinha (5:10.01, come from behind).

Also for Durfee, Julianne Pazio (161.25) and Keysha Leonidas (161.10) finished 1-2 in the diving. Silmara DosSantos, Kaylee Tavares, Rute Rodriguez and Hannah Ferreira also swam strong for the Toppers.

Nauset 101, Bishop Connolly 56: At Willy's Gym in Eastham, Connolly's rachel Medeiros won the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.73) and 500 freestyle (5:45.51, sectional qualifier) and teammate Christy Bogan took second place in the butterfly (1:28.17).

 

BOY'S SWIMMING AND DIVING

Durfee 81, Coyle and Cassidy 69: At the Karen Jarabek Pool in Fall River, Kareen Mohmoud, Jaden Souza, Roman Muller and Benjamin Hankerson won both the 200 medley relay (2:07.83) and the 200 free relay (1:49.21) as the Hilltoppers won their home opener.

Daniel Katz (162.05) won the diving and Durfee also got strong performances from Tyler Davis, Ima Alves, Alejandro Diaz, Giovanny Silva and Andrew Quinones.

Nauset 92, Bishop Connolly 62: At Willy's Gym in Eastham, Luke Jubinville, Gabriel Harstad, Noah Benevides and Austin Medeiros won the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:57.28) and took second in the 200 medley relay (2:16.60), both times setting records for the second-year program.
