A 35-year-old woman and her paramour were arrested for allegedly killing the former's husband in Maharashtra's Thane district, police said Saturday.
Addressing a press conference, Assistant Commissioner of Police Kalwa Division, Ramesh Dhumal, said an unidentified body was found in a nullah behind Shanti Mafatlal slum colony on December 9.
"Our probe managed to identify the body as that of Kalwa resident Tajbabu Shakil Salmani (32). We then zeroed in on his wife Rubina Bibi Tajbabu Salmani after we got information that the couple used to quarrel frequently," he said.
Dhumal said the woman was questioned during which she confessed to having killed her husband by strangulation with the help of her paramour Pralhadsingh alias Pintu Kanusingh Rajput (28), a resident of Gokulnagar in Thane city.
"We mounted a search for Rajput and nabbed him from Neemuch in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh. He has been remanded in police custody till December 18," the ACP said.
He said preliminary investigations have revealed that frequent quarrels between the victim and his wife led to the latter allegedly conspiring with Rajput to kill him.
The woman and Rajput knew each other as they earlier worked at the same barber shop, he said.
The two accused called Salmani to a slum area on December 8 and after strangulating him with a spring disposed of his body in a nullah, he said.
The two have been charged with murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, he added.
