AHMEDABAD: In the wee hours of Friday, a 24-year-old man filed a complaint with Kalupur police, accusing a 33-year-old priest affiliated with a certain religious sect of sodomy. The priest has been absconding since the incident, said police officials.
The complainant alleged that he was sexually assaulted by the priest, named Vishweswaroop Swami, who lives at a temple of the sect in Kalupur, after he refused to put a cover on the priest’s car.

The complainant, a resident of Kalupur, in his FIR stated, “I have been going to the library at the old building of the temple for the last 15 days. I was allotted a room at the temple to read, through the reference of another priest there.”

“On Thursday night, I went to the temple in Kalupur with my friend Mehul Parekh. At that time, Vishweswaroop Swami entered our room and asked me to cover his car. As my foot was injured, I declined to do it. On hearing this, he got angry at me, grabbed my collar, stroked my chest and sexually assaulted me,” the complainant stated in the FIR.

He alleged that the priest then pulled off his trousers and attempted to have unnatural sex with him. Scared, the complainant tried to call the police, but the priest used force to prevent him from doing so and later pushed him out of the temple.

The priest even threatened the youth and bragged that no one could harm him, he alleged.

The complainant later told his father about the incident. He was later accompanied to Kalupur police station by a friend, where he filed his complaint.

A Kalupur police officer said a team rushed to the temple to nab the accused, but he had fled by the time they arrived.
