Faf leads uproar over Paarl Rocks elimination

2018-12-15 12:14

Cape Town - Faf du Plessis led the call of disappointment from the Paarl Rocks camp after the side was eliminated from the Mzansi Super League at the Wanderers on Friday.

The qualifier match was called off without a ball being bowled after heavy rain fell down in Johannesburg.

With a tight schedule and no reserve day in place, the hosts qualified for the decider at Newlands by virtue of ending above the visitors on the final regular-season table.

The Stars finished second on the standings with 29 points, while the Rocks ended in third spot on 22 points.

Proteas and Paarl Rocks skipper Du Plessis conveyed his disappointment on Twitter on Saturday, writing: "Sad way to go out of the @MSL_T20 league. Proud of the @Paarl_Rocks. What a great competition it has been. Definitely need to have a reserve day for a semi-final going forward. Good luck to the 2 teams in the finals."

Rocks batsman Henry Davids also expressed his frustration, commenting that it was sunny skies on Saturday morning in Johannesburg.

"Very disappointing end to our campaign @Paarl_Rocks loved every minute of it. Could say alot about rules regarding playoff games but it is what is. Thanks for the great support people from Paarl and everywhere!!! It was much appreciated," wrote Davids.

Former Proteas batsman David Wiese also shared his sadness over their elimination, "Really disappointing way to get knocked out of the @MSL_T20 sport is all about competing and we didn't get that chance last night!! Surely you need a reserve day for a semi final!"

Proteas spinner Tabraiz Shamsi also echoed his team-mates sentiments: "A sad way to get knocked out last night but I had a great time with the @Paarl_Rocks gents in the first edition of the @MSL_T20.

The final of the Mzansi Super League between the Cape Town Blitz and Jozi Stars gets under way on Sunday at 15:30.
