As India fielded an all-pace attack in Perth, it seemed that they were missing a geniune all-rounder option. The thoughts obviously turned to Hardik Pandya- who has donned the role in recent times.
Almost right on cue, Pandya has announced his return from a back injury suffered during the Asia Cup with an impressive bowling spell in Ranji Trophy.
Hardik Pandya took five wickets for Baroda in their Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. Pandya, who has taken three wickets on the opening day on Friday, completed his five-wicket haul on Saturday morning as he took the remaining two wickets.
On Friday, Hardik Pandya was handed the new ball - only the eighth such instance for Pandya in the Ranji Trophy - and used the little assistance the surface offered with good effect.
Pandya has opted to play Ranji Trophy so he can stake his claim for a place in the Indian side for the third and the fourth Test in Australia.
So far it has been a great return for him.
