NEW DELHI: In a bid to woo Indian travellers, Myanmar has decided to grant them visa-on-arrival (VoA). Indian passport holders will get VoA at Yangon, Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw International Airports for a fee of $50. This relaxation will allow Indians to go there without applying for Myanmar visa at embassies in India or applying for the country’s e-visa beforehand.

In the past few months, several countries — especially in the Gulf — have gone all out to woo Indian tourists. United Arab Emirates (UAE) now grants VoA arrival to Indian Nationals with a valid US Visa. Oman also do the same to Indians who reside in or hold an entry visa to US, Canada, Australia, UK, Japan and Schengen States. Qatar allows Indians and nationals of 46 other countries to stay for up to 60 days there without a prior visa.

UAE will soon grant free transit visa to spend up two days there while transiting through its mega hubs like Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Sharjah. The UAE Cabinet had this summer taken the decision on two-day free transit visa, that can be extended for up to four more days by paying 50 Dirham. However, it is yet to announce the date from which the scheme will be rolled out.

“Oman VoA can also be availed by the spouse (husband/wife) and children of the visa holder of any of these six mentioned countries as long as they are accompanying him/her, even if they do not hold a visa from these countries,” Oman Tourism had recently said in a mail to travel agents. Such people will be given a visa for a period of one month for a fee of 20 Omani Riyal if their passport is valid for not less than six months and they have a confirm hotel ticket and hotel accommodation.
