Nagpur: A two-and-half year-old boy died after a goods carrier vehicle crushed him in front of his house near Naik Talav on Thursday afternoon.
Love Badrotiya, a resident of Naik Talav area, was playing outside his house with his three-year-old cousin while his mother Pinky was sitting nearby. The killer vehicle, that had a drunk driver behind the wheels, lost control and hit Love. The vehicle fell over the toddler who sustained serious head injuries. Love’s cousin made a miraculous escape. The onlookers rushed Love to Mayo Hospital where he was declared dead. Meanwhile, the mob gathered at the accident spot thrashed the driver.
The accident has raised several questions about the safety of children in the area. Though the road where the accident happened is wide, garbage is thrown on one side of it while vehicles are parked on the other, thus narrowing it down. Just four days ago, a student of Std III sustained serious injuries after he was hit by a speeding vehicle just 50m away from Thursday’s accident spot.
Sidharta Kamble, management member of school, told TOI, “We have written several application to Shanti Nagar zone of NMC to build speed breakers near school but no action has been initiated from NMC’s side.”
