Developer faces penalty for delay in construction

Vadodara: The Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) will slap a fine on a developer for the delay in construction of houses for the beneficiaries of the Madhavnagar and Keshavnagar housing schemes. VUDA had razed the two housing schemes after a block of Madhavnagar collapsed in August 2013 killing 11 persons.

After the collapse of one block in Madhavnagar, it had come to light that other blocks in the scheme as well as those in Keshavnagar located nearby were not fit to be occupied. All the blocks in the two schemes that had 724 dwellings were razed and a redevelopment scheme on a public-private partnership mode was floated.

The work was initially given to NA Constructions, but no development took place on the site till 2015. Manav Infrastructure was given the work on December 12, 2016, and was scheduled to complete work by October 16, 2018, said VUDA chairman Ajay Bhadoo.

With the work already delayed, VUDA has decided to give a final extension for the work till January 31. If the project is not completed by this time, the authority will use the penalty clause in the tender.

Officials said that the developer was in the process of obtaining drainage and water connections and elevators were being installed at the site. The process of obtaining an occupancy certificate for the residential blocks has also started.
