WORCESTER (AP) — The city of Worcester and firefighters from throughout the state are paying their final respects to a Worcester firefighter who died battling a house fire last weekend.

Calling hours for firefighter Christopher Roy are scheduled for this afternoon at St. John's Catholic Church, 44 Temple St.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Saturday at the same site. A private burial will be held after the service.

The 36-year-old Roy was hurt in the pre-dawn fire last Sunday, and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Shrewsbury resident was a single father who leaves behind a 9-year-old daughter as well as his parents and other relatives.

The city firefighter's union has set up a fund at the Worcester Fire Department Credit Union to help his daughter, Ava.
