Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) is likely to suspend train services for 24 to 36 hours on the Purple Line over the weekend to carry out maintenance work after a honeycomb formation (cavities in the concrete) was detected on a beam near the Trinity station.
The final call on this will be taken after preparation of a detailed action plan for the work. The BMRCL is working on erecting raised steel platforms to access the area where repairs have to be done. On Thursday, workers were seen building four such structures to support the beam. A stretch of M.G. Road has been partially barricaded on both the sides for the work.
Ajay Seth, BMRCL managing director, said, “At the moment we are in the process of providing full support to the structure. Simultaneously, we are preparing a detailed action plan on how the entire activity will be carried out. Some of this work cannot be done when the operations are on. Most likely on a Saturday or a Sunday we may have to suspend the operations. We will announce it in advance for the benefit of commuters.”
The BMRCL hopes to complete in 10 days the repair work, which includes grouting the area. Metro services are likely to be suspended depending on the curing period, which may range from 24 to 36 hours.
DMRCL approached
The BMRCL has sought the expertise of officials in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (DMRCL) and the faculty of Indian Institute of Science for the repair.
Mr. Seth said, “We have a good team with us. However, it is always good to seek expert opinion.”
