NEW DELHI: A youth died while his friend was injured after being stabbed nearly a dozen times when they tried to resolve a fight between two groups at Prem Nagar in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar on Thursday night. Police said that four people involved in the attack have been identified.

The incident happened around 10.30pm when the youths, Anuj (23) and Sachin (22), heard about a fight outside their colony and decided to intervene. During this, one of the youths involved in the scuffle had also warned them and asked them to stay away, but they refused and managed to convince both the groups to stay away.

However, this led to another argument between them and the members of the two groups who accused them of being supporters of the other side and attacked them. Sachin claimed the Anuj was stabbed at least six times and when he tried to save him, the attackers stabbed him five to six times with a knife, due to which they fell unconscious. Both of them were taken to a government hospital where Anuj was declared brought dead while Sachin had been admitted to the ICU.

In the meantime, a crowd had gathered in the area due to which the accused, identified as Suresh, Bobby, Rahul and Arjun, left the spot.

“We have registered a case of murder and have launched a manhunt to nab the youths. We are trying to establish the reason behind the assault,” said Seju Kuruvilla, DCP, outer.

Locals said that there were regular fights between the two groups, who were addicted to drugs. Police suspect that some of them were also drug peddlers.
