‘Deploy police personnel during rush hour’

Two intersections, both involving Ramakrishna Math Road, need better traffic regulation

The intersection of Ramakrishna Math Road, Thiruvengadam Street and intersection of Ramakrishna Math Road and School Road resemble a three-ring circus during rush hour.

Here are the reasons. One, many motorists coming from Thiruvengadam Street enter Ramakrishna Math Road without pausing, and take a free left turn to proceed towards Venkatakrishna Road (R. A. Puram). Two, motorists coming from Adyar and Mylapore don’t stop at the intersection, but cut through the flow of vehicular traffic from Thiruvengadam Street, swerving left and right.

Three, the intersection of Ramakrishna Math Road and School Road is no different. During the morning rush hour, motorists from School Road swish past the oncoming traffic from Adyar.

Four, some of the motorists coming from these stretches ride in the opposite direction, adding to the chaos at the junction.

Mostorists and pedestrians feel this issue can be tackled only with delpoyment of traffic police personnel at the intersection during rush hour. Only the disciplined motorists halt and proceed through the intersections.

Many motorists have escaped being in an accident, by a whisker. Steps should be taken at the earliest to deploy personnel at these intersections during the morning and evening rush hour, says K. Gopal, a motorist.

A Chennai Traffic Police official has promised to ensure that police personnel are deployed at the intersections to regulate rush hour traffic.
