CHENNAI: Former Tamil Nadu transport minister V Senthil Balaji, who is one of the 18 disqualified MLAs, joined the DMK on Friday after leaving TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK.

M K Stalin welcomed Balaji into the DMK at the party headquarters.

Later, the former AIADMK minister told reporters: “I have joined DMK as a primary member of the party. I see Stalin as a good leader who can take the state forward. The party symbol, Rising Sun, has shown light to me. I will work for the victory of the DMK and see that Stalin becomes the chief minister.”

He said his decision to join the DMK was based on the views of the people of Karur constituency which he represented in the assembly.

He said, “I did not ask any other disqualified MLA to join the DMK along with me. I had not participated in the activities of the AMMK for the past one month as I had decided to join DMK.”

Balaji, who kept on attacking the ruling AIADMK during his interaction with reporters, was more or less silent on questions related to Dhinakaran. “I have worked under TTV Dhinakaran and worked unitedly. I don't want to comment on anything Dhinakaran said about my decision to join the DMK. I want to maintain political decorum.”

He said the ruling AIADMK was a sinking ship. “People voted for Jayalalithaa. The present AIADMK government is subservient to the BJP government at the Centre. Chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will go back to agriculture after he loses his post,” he said.
