Man dupes live-in partner of Rs 90 lakh, held

BENGALURU: A 41-year-old man, who posed as a choreographer, has been arrested for cheating a woman of Rs 90 lakh after promising to marry her and also offering roles in movies and serials.
Vadiraj Gowda alias Satish Kumar alias Abhishek alias Abhiram, a resident of Subedarpalya in Yeshwanthpur, was taken into custody from Salem district in Tamil Nadu recently.
A real estate agent, Gowda befriended the woman on Facebook in January 2017 and claimed that he knew many film producers and directors. “He told me that he’s a bachelor. Knowing that I’m a divorcee, he proposed me. Trusting him, I lived with him for nearly an year. During that period, he promised to purchase BDA plots for cheaper rates and asked me to get money from relatives and friends,” she said.
By mid 2018, the woman collected Rs 90 lakh from 45 persons, including her sister. “But after that, he started avoiding me. I was under pressure from my sister and others who had given me money. He did not give any convincing reply to questions about sites. One day, he ran away and his cellphone remained switched off,” the woman said.
Police suspect Gowda has cheated more people in similar way.
