GURUGRAM: A resident of Sector 17 claimed to have received a power bill of Rs 95,000 for the months of August and September. While the consumption reflected on the bill was only 932 units, the discom charged her for 10,000 units, she alleged.
The resident, Vanita Singh, also alleged that despite repeated complaints, the discom had not rectified the bill yet.

“My power meter turned defunct in March. In April, they replaced it. Then, I received a bill of Rs 40,000 for June and July. I was shocked. I live alone here and don’t consume much electricity.

“When I approached discom officials, they told me that since the meter was defunct, the bill generated for the time was calculated on the basis of my consumption rate during the corresponding period of the previous year.”

Singh said she eventually paid the amount. “Then, I received the bill for August and September, and it was a staggering Rs 95,000,” she alleged.

“When I asked discom officials, they said as per rules, I was to be charged at flat rates for 4 months after the meter’s replacement.”

Discom officials said they were looking into the matter.
