Nepal bans Indian notes above IRN 100

The government of Nepal has banned Indian currency of all denominations above rupees 100. The recent meeting of the Council of Ministers has decided to publish a notice not to use the Indian currency of 200, 500 and 2000 denominations in Nepal.

This decision makes use of Indian notes of denominations more than 100 illegal.

Briefing, Cabinet decisions, Government Spokesperson Gokul Banskota said, “The government has decided to publish a notice not to use, carry and keep the Indian bills of 200, 500 and 2000 denominations.”

The Nepal government has decided to issue a notice to create awareness among the people not to use, keep and carry Indian currency notes of Rs 200, Rs 500 and Rs 2000 denominations.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, the decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held in Kathmandu on Monday.

In Nepal using and carrying Indian currency of more than Rs 100 denomination is illegal.

After demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes by the Indian Government, the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), through a circular, declared using, carrying or keeping Indian currency above Rs 100 denomination illegal in Nepal.
