K’taka fishermen deflate tyres of Goa fish trucks

MARGAO: Goa’s border with Karnataka once again witnessed some tense moments on Friday as fishermen from Karnataka retaliated to the FDA’s seizure of fish consignment coming into Goa from Karwar and left nearly 16 trucks carrying fish from Goa to Kerala stranded by deflating their tyres.

Sources said that fish traders from Goa have expressed concern that the ongoing issue will only escalate and fear that fishermen from Karnataka may even destroy their vehicles carrying fish consignments and travelling through the neighbouring state.

Meanwhile, hundreds of fish-laden trucks remained stranded at jetties in Goa due to the agitation by fishermen on the Karnataka border protesting against the action by Goa authorities.

President of North Goa purse-siene boat owners’ association Harshad Dhond said that several vehicles loaded with fish have not left the jetty at Malim.
