End of an era: The Grand Tour host Clarkson calls time on 'studio' shows, Hammond and May follow suit

Former host of the hugely-successful Top Gear show, Jeremy Clarkson, announced he will opt out of doing any studio-based motoring shows, according to British newspaper reports. 

Clarkson, along with Richard Hammond and James May, currently host Amazon Prime's The Grand TourThe Mirror reported that at the end of filming of their third season an emotional Clarkson told the audience: "it's the end of an era".

An audience member says Clarkson's girlfriend Lisa Hogan and his two daughters were in the studio when the 58-year-old made the announcement. 

The former BBC broadcaster also said his two co-hosts would leave with him, the trio have all signed a two-year deal with Amazon to produce big budget Hollywood-style motoring films, according to the Daily Mail

Clarkson was booted off Top Gear after a producer accused the burly presenter of punching, allegedly for having a physical altercation with Oisin Tymon who failed to get a steak for Clarkson and was subsequently only offered cold cuts at the hotel where the crew stayed after filming.
