KOLKATA: A Salt Lake resident, Joy Chowdhury, was arrested on Thursday on the charge of attempting to murder his estranged wife.
Joy is Mohun Bagan vice-president Balaram Chowdhury's son.
Nirajeeta Choudhury, who has been separated from Joy since 2011, has claimed in her complaint that he had come to her home at Baishnabghata Patuli Township on November 27 to drop their daughter back from a visit, when they had a fight. She alleged Joy started shouting. When she tried to stop him, he slapped her, physically abused her and tore her clothes, she alleged. He left after threatening them. Nirajeeta lodged a complaint of domestic violence, grievous assault and criminal intimidation at the Bidhannagar Women Police station the next day.
