Isha Ambani’s wedding lehenga had a very special significance
Here’s what you need to know about the intricately detailed bridal look

It’s been almost a month since the wedding celebrations of Isha Ambani, daughter of Mukesh and Nita Ambani, kicked off with a dandiya raas night. And just yesterday, the 27-year-old businesswoman finally tied the knot with her childhood friend, Anand Piramal, the scion of industrialist Ajay Piramal, in a bespoke Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla creation.
Isha Ambani strayed away from a linear approach when it came to her wedding ensembles, choosing custom creations from leading couturiers in the country. After donning a high-octane Manish Malhotra lehenga for her pre-wedding ceremony, the bride went with a romantic Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla design, which was customised in a touching nod to her love for her mother: Nita Ambani’s wedding sari, a 35-year-old heirloom piece, was incorporated in her own bridal lehenga.
A ravishing off-white set featuring a trail and kalis with floral motifs was Ambani’s pick for the day. Enhanced with intricate red zardozi borders as well as mukaish and nakshi work, the designer duo’s signature of infusing Indian craftsmanship with heritage textile was evident in Isha Ambani’s bridal number. The lehenga also came with two dupattas—one a tulle version on the shoulder, and an embroidered one with a long, sequinned trail, that the bride draped over her head.
One of the biggest weddings of the year without a doubt, the couple’s celebrations saw the who’s who from across industries (and countries) come down to congratulate and and celebrate the union with them. In case you missed it, the pre-wedding festivities concluded last weekend in Udaipur with the likes of the Beyoncé, Hillary Clinton and almost all B-town celebrities in attendance. Unlike the Udaipur functions, the traditional wedding ceremony was a smaller affair with a guest list of 600 close family and friends, held at the Ambani family home, Antilia in Mumbai. The 27-storied mansion, also touted as one of the most expensive homes in the world, was decked with red flowers and diyas before the ceremonies kicked off.
Clearly an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla patron, Isha Ambani had opted for another creation by the designers—a multi-hued lehenga with intricate mirror work and threadwork—for her dandiya raas night in November. She was also seen sporting an outfit by the veteran couturiers for brother Akash Ambani’s engagement to Shloka Mehta earlier this year in July.
