GREATER NOIDA: A 14-year-old boy was shot during celebratory firing in an engagement ceremony and succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital late on Wednesday.
The boy, Gaurav Singh from Ghodi Bachheda village, had gone to Sector MU to attend an engagement ceremony of a neighbour in the evening. “Gaurav had just finished eating and was going towards the exit gate of the ceremonial ground where the groom was standing with three of his friends. They were firing in the air and one of the bullets hit Gaurav,” said Vinod Chauhan, a relative of Gaurav.
Gaurav was rushed to Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida, where he was declared dead. “Gaurav was brought dead to the hospital at 5.55pm. He had suffered injuries in his neck and chest,” the medico legal document of the deceased stated.
On the basis of the complaint filed by Gaurav’s family, an FIR has been lodged against the accused under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. The body has been sent for an autopsy.
SP (rural) Vinit Jaiswal told TOI that prima facie the firing was done from an illegal weapon which has not been recovered yet. “The accused fled the spot. Their family could not produce any papers of the pistol used for firing. Stringent action will be taken against the offenders,” the SP added.
Ajay Pal Sharma, SSP, Gautam Budh Nagar has directed police to file a separate case against the organisers of the event, too.
