India’s biggest ever tennis star, Vijay Amritraj was born in Chennai on December 14, 1953. Amritraj has beaten all top player of his times including Rod Laver, Jimmy Connors, Bjorn Borg, Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, and others. Amritraj has reached a career rank of 16 in singles and won 16 ATP singles titles. Amritraj also had a brief career in acting. His most notable appearance is as the MI6 agent Vijay in the 1983 James Bond film Octopussy. He also appeared briefly in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) as a starship captain. He was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honour in 1983.
