AGARTALA: BJP workers on Tuesday night allegedly set Congress and CPM offices at Charilam in Sepahijala district on fire and attacked Congress members celebrating the party’s electoral success in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.
Congress workers had taken out a procession in Charilam market, celebrating the party’s successes in the three states when the rally was allegedly attacked by BJP cadres. Six Congress supporters were reportedly injured in the attack and released after primary treatment.
The miscreants also set CPM party office on fire at Charilam bazaar in presence of civilians and police. But nobody has been arrested so far in connection with the incidents.
“BJP has sheltered criminals, who are now up to no good. Every incident has been reported to police but no action has been taken,” Bhanu Lal Saha, former CPM minister and Bishalgarh legislator, said.
Meanwhile, a group of miscreants barged into Congress office and set furniture on fire. Later, miscreants rushed to nearby CPM office and set ablaze the office. Police and fire service personnel rushed to spot and after more than hour-long effort, three fire tenders brought the fire under control.
BJP denied its cadres were involved. “This is a condemnable act, perpetrated by miscreants who were with CPM earlier and have now been doing this to give BJP a bad name,” Nabendu Bhattacharya, BJP spokesperson, said.
