Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIU) on Wednesday said it has expunged from its records an ‘objectionable’ question that was asked in a law exam, and apologised for “hurt caused to the sentiments of any person, community or members of the society in general”.
The university had courted controversy after a question, with communal overtones, was posed in its Law of Crimes-I examination paper (LLB205) — held on December 7 for its third-semester BA/BBA LLB programme.
‘Sincere regret’
Expressing “sincere and unqualified regrets”, the university said the question has been expunged from the records and was taking all possible measures to avoid recurrence of such an incident in the future.
“As a public institution, the university assures the people of the country that it is committed to the national ethos of secularism, pluralism and multiculturalism,” it added.
The Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had ordered an inquiry into reports of a compulsory question that asked: “Ahmed, a Muslim kills a cow in a market in the presence of Rohit, Tushar, Manav and Rahul, who are Hindus. Has Ahmed committed any offence?”
“How could such a reprehensible question with a communal overtone be framed for an LLB exam?” said the Minister, while directing Secretary (Higher Education) to probe the matter and file a report.
