Kerala govt allows local bodies to use own fund to clean wells in flood-affected panchayats
Aswin J Kumar | TNN | Dec 12, 2018, 17:38 ISTTHIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has given approval to spend own fund in places wherever necessary to dewater wells which had been contaminated during flood and to clean them. The government has directed that spending from own fund will be allowed only for the present year. The expense for this process will be determined by engineers concerned and shall be completed within 30 days.
The request to use development fund for cleaning wells in flood affected panchayats was raised by secretary of Gram panchayat association. The state level coordination committee meeting held on 16.10.18 had considered the request and opined that local bodies shall exempt fund utilisation for well cleaning and directed that local bodies may use own fund for this year for dewatering and cleaning wells.
The state government has now given approval for use of own fund for cleaning wells based on the decision of state level coordination committee.
