Dawoodi Bohras to celebrate Dr Syedna’s birthday in city

Surat: Thousands of Dawoodi Bohras from all over the world will descend to the Diamond City in the coming days to celebrate the 75th birthday of 53rd Da’i al-Mutlaq and community head Dr Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin on December 28. This time around, Zampa Bazaar, the religious centre of Dawoodi Bohras, has taken up cleanliness and tree plantation drive to celebrate the birthday of their spiritual leader.
Dr Syedna Saifuddin will be arriving in the city on Thursday and that he is going to stay here for the next 20 days on the part of his birthday celebration and to overlook the cleanliness and plantation drive campaign taken up by the community. Earlier, Dr Syedna Saifuddin had announced that he would celebrate his birthday on the day of his father Dr Syedna Burhanuddin RA’s birthday as per the Misri calendar to give him a lasting tribute.

Each and every Dawoodi Bohra member in the city has been included in the cleanliness and tree plantation drive. The community members have joined in the cleanliness of their mohallas and streets, planting saplings in their houses, lanes and streets etc. There is a target of planting and nurturing 10,000 trees in the Bohra-dominated areas, including Zampa Bazaar and Begumpura, in the walled city.


Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani will remain present during the celebratory procession to be taken out by the community members on the eve of Dr Syedna Saheb’s birthday celebration in Zampa Bazaar on December 27. The procession will commence with prayers and make its way from Bohra academy’s sports ground to the stage on Devri in Zampa Bazaar.


On December 28, Dr Syedna Saifuddin will deliver sermon at the historic al-Masjid al-Muazzam, addressing thousands of Dawoodi Bohras from across the world.


Talking to TOI, leader of Bohra community Yusuf Badri said, “We are expecting thousands of our community members to attend the birthday celebration of Dr Syedna Saheb. The Bohra community across the world will celebrate his birthday with cleanliness campaign and tree plantation drive in their respective areas.”
