A day after assembly election results were declared in five states, the drama now moves to Parliament. This will be the last full-fledged session before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. According to Indian Express sources, the Congress is likely to move an adjournment motion on the Rafale deal in Lok Sabha on Wednesday while Trinamool Congress has already given a notice in Rajya Sabha under rule 267 to “immediately discuss the threat to nation’s institutions like RBI”.

The session, which is likely to have a total of 20 sittings, has about 43 bills listed for introduction, consideration, and passage, including the all-important Triple Talaq Bill, which needs legislative approval after being promulgated as an ordinance in September.

In this session, Congress will also push forward the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill, of which party chief Rahul Gandhi has been a strong advocate. The Bill proposes to amend the Constitution to reserve 33 per cent of all seats in Lok Sabha and all state assemblies for women.

Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned on the first day of the Winter Session Tuesday after paying homage to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee and former members who passed away recently.
