Ambala: Man sets son, daughter on fire, kills self

AMBALA: A man committed suicide after setting his son and daughter on fire on intervening night of Monday and Tuesday in Subhash Gali area of Ambala city.
As per the information, the man first set his children aged four and six on fire and then set himself ablaze.
The man named Deepak, a salesman by profession, was declared brought dead while his six-year-old son succumbed to his burn injuries later in the day.
The condition of his four-year-old daughter is stated to be critical. She has been put on ventilator, said PGI Chandigarh officials.
The Ambala City police have registered a case under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 309 (attempt to commit suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of sister-in-law of the deceased.
“On Monday, Deepak and his wife had a scuffle over some matter. In the midnight of Monday and Tuesday at around 12am, Deepak took both of his children to the terrace, where he lighted a fire using a heap of dung-cakes. He threw the children directly into the flames and then set himself ablaze. After hearing their screams, locals came to their rescue and rushed them to Ishwar Hospital and Ambala City Civil Hospital, from where they were referred to PGI, Chandigarh by the police,” said his sister-in-law.
Investigation officer Balbir said,“The father was declared brought dead by the doctors on Tuesday. After the post-mortem, his body was handed over to the family members for the last rites. His son Prabaljit also died during treatment after which his post-mortem was conducted. Further proceedings into this case are on.”
