Pune: The Pune railway division is working to extend the length of platforms of nine stations of the Pune-Lonavla section. Around 1.5 lakh passengers travel every day from Pune to Lonavla. The work on six platforms has already started and the total cost of the development is Rs 14.50 crore.

Manoj Jhawar, the spokesperson of the Pune division, said, “The platforms of some stations fall short by the length of the trains. Due to this, the passengers face many problems while boarding the train, which is risky. When the local trains are given double halt, it confuses the passengers and also affects the punctuality of the trains.”

“To prevent this, it is necessary to increase the length of the platform for the convenience of passengers. In the future, 15 coach locals will also be operated in this section. This decision has been made to increase the length of the stations with smaller platforms like Shivajinagar, Dapodi, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Dehu Road, Talegaon, Vadgaon and Malavli. A total expenditure of Rs 14.50 crore has been proposed for the same and work has already begun at Dapodi, Pimpri, Chinchwad, Talegaon and Vadgaon stations,” he said.
