NEW DELHI: The nursery admissions for the general category will begin on Saturday. However, the directorate of education (DoE) is yet to come up with a schedule for admission under the economically weaker section/disadvantaged (EWS/DG) category due to the “casual approach” of the deputy district education (DDE) officers.
According to the director of DoE, Sanjay Goel, the deputy district education officers have not completed the process of updating details of private schools with the seats and the GPS coordinates, delaying the process. The city has 13 education districts, with each having two to three zones depending on its size.
The entry-level admissions for 25% reserved seats in private schools is carried out centrally by DoE. The directorate invites online applications and conducts a draw of lots for the seats mandated under Section 12(1)(C ) of Right to Education (RTE) Act.
In a letter sent to the districts on December 7, Goel said, “In respect of providing data of EWS/DG seats for 2019-20 academic session, all district DDEs were directed to get the exercise completed by December 4 and forward the updated list of schools with GPS coordinates and number of seats to DoE’s private school branch latest by December 5, so that further necessary action can be taken for starting online admission process for the next academic session, well in time.”
A request was also sent to the DDEs through WhatsApp and emails and they were finally given an extension till December 7.
“Despite all directions, the requisite data has still not been provided by the DDEs. This casual approach of all DDEs is not acceptable and may invite disciplinary action,” added the letter.
The director has also expressed anguish over the DDEs delaying the process of compilation of the details of the schools which have not provided books and uniforms to students belonging to the EWS/DG category. On November 28, DoE had issued a circular threatening action against errant private schools.
