Harris: I didn't feel out of my depth

2018-12-12 14:07

Cape Town - Brand new Australian opener Marcus Harris reflects on his debut Test against India at Adelaide.

The left-hander was drafted into the Baggy Greens for one of the tougher jobs in Test cricket following a purple patch of form batting for Victoria.

Harris scored 250 not out in October and backed it up with three scores over 60 in the matches following.

Harris got two starts in Adelaide, scoring 26 in each innings, so it’s safe to say that the experiment is not over. Speaking at a press conference, the Perth native revealed his mental state ahead of the second test at the WACA on Friday.

“If you start to get a little too confident you can get carried away a bit,” the 26-year-old told the press.

“You always doubt yourself, as a person, you're not sure if you're going to fit in test cricket or if you’re going to be too far out of your depth.

So I didn't feel out of my depth at all. I realised pretty quickly that they don’t bowl any crap and they don’t miss any chances you give them, so you got to be switched on from ball one.

“But I felt like my game stood up to it, it’s a decision making thing and being able to occupy the crease for long periods of time.”
