Former finance secretary and current member of the finance commission Shaktikanta Das was appointed the new Reserve Bank of India governor on Tuesday. The move came almost 24 hours after Urjit Patel resigned from the post amid rift with the Finance Ministry, but cited personal reasons for the decision.

Shaktikanta Das is known primarily as the Centre’s face during demonetisation. He has even held press conferences almost on a daily basis addressing public issues back then.

And while people may not be too pleased about this move, and have questioned his educational qualification directly affecting his ability to be the new RBI governor, this isn't the only thing that spiked in Google searches.

A Google trend result shows that people searched for 'Shaktikanta Das Caste' after the appointment of the new RBI governor.
