Mexican President Seeks to Revoke Education System Overhaul

López Obrador says his government will guarantee free public education at all levels, including universities

MEXICO CITY—Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on Wednesday sent an initiative to Congress to undo his predecessor’s public education overhaul, which he said infringed on labor rights of teachers.

Mr. López Obrador, who took office Dec. 1 after winning July elections by a landslide, promised during his campaign to reverse what he called the “misnamed education reform,” which mandated performance evaluations of public school teachers seeking work or promotions.
