Guj: 2 killed after bootlegger's car hits their motorcycle

Two persons were Tuesday killed after their motorcycle was allegedly by a bootlegger's car which members claimed was first hit by a vehicle driven by a policeman, an said.

The incident happened near Kalani village in Siddhpur taluka of Gujarat's district and police identified the two deceased as Dashrath Thakor (50) and (25).

members refused to take possession of the dead bodies of the two men and blocked the road in protest, relenting only after the police pacified them, an said.

The deceased men's families alleged the bootlegger's car hit the motorcycle as it was chased and by another vehicle being driven by a policeman, officials said.

"The members of the deceased agreed to take the bodies hours after the accident. We have found that the car driven by a bootlegger identified as hit the motorcycle," station sub-inspector R G Chaudhary said.

"We have registered an offence against Singh under the Prohibition Act and IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (culpable homicide)," he added.

Singh, following the accident, slipped into coma and is currently admitted in a hospital in Patan, he said.

Chaudhary said CCTV footage from the area was being checked.
