Shivakumara Swami, the 111-year-old seer of Siddaganga Mutt, Tumakuru, who underwent a liver bypass and gall bladder removal surgery at the Dr. Rela Institute and Medical Centre in Chennai on Saturday, is on the way to recovery.

According to a statement issued by the hospital on Monday, he is conscious, well-oriented and is communicating well. “He is beginning to mobilise in the ICU and his vitals are stable,” the statement said.

The seer had been suffering from cholangitis, an inflammation of the bile duct, and was shifted to the institute on Friday after he again developed an infection. His personal physician in the mutt said he was likely to be shifted to the ward by Wednesday. “Considering his age, he may have to stay at least for a week. We will bring him back to the mutt by next Monday,” he said.
